From DBJ: U.S. Hispanic Chamber honors Mike Rawlings with business champion award
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings has joined the ranks of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro as a recipient of the American Business Champion Award.
Given by the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the accolade is awarded to an elected leader who advocates in the interests of business owners in their community. It will be awarded to Rawlings in a ceremony on Tuesday night.
“Dallas is a hotbed for Hispanic-owned business – one in 10 businesses in the Metroplex is Hispanic-owned,” said Javier Palomarez, USHCC’s president and CEO. “Few people understand the importance of these businesses more than Mike Rawlings. He’s figured out how to push business development while creating economic development, like job creation, that’s important to neighborhoods.”
Rawlings earned the distinction for launching economic and educational initiatives that have improved the lives of Dallas residents, the USHCC said. He has also earned support from businesses in the public and private sectors to revitalize the city’s south side.
